Paris for Medical Congresses: Venues, Hotel Areas and Group Tips
Paris hosts medical congresses at two main venues: the Palais des Congrès at Porte Maillot, home of EuroPCR every May (next from 18 to 21 May 2027), and Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the city's largest exhibition centre, which hosted the ISTH congress in July 2026. The best hotel area for your group depends on which side of the city the congress is on.
Paris draws thousands of specialists every year across cardiology, haematology, psychiatry, dermatology, ophthalmology and more. EBMT's 2023 annual meeting alone brought around 6,000 participants to the city. Rooms near the venues go quickly, and Paris has its own rules on room sizes, city tax and HCP hospitality that are worth knowing before you book. The main congress venues in Paris
Palais des Congrès de Paris (Porte Maillot)
- Location: on the western edge of central Paris, between the Arc de Triomphe and La Défense.
- Medical congresses: EuroPCR, the leading European meeting in interventional cardiology, every May; the 2027 edition runs from 18 to 21 May.
- Getting there: metro line 1, RER C and RER E all stop at Porte Maillot.
Paris Expo Porte de Versailles
- Location: in the 15th arrondissement, in the south-west of the city.
- Medical events: large congresses such as ISTH 2026, as well as healthcare trade shows like PharmagoraPlus (13 to 14 March 2027).
- Getting there: metro line 12 and trams T2 and T3a stop at the gates.
Where to stay
For the Palais des Congrès
The 17th and 16th arrondissements and Neuilly-sur-Seine are within walking distance or a short ride. La Défense is a good-value option for groups: metro line 1 runs directly from La Défense to Porte Maillot in a few minutes, and the business hotels there are usually larger.
For Porte de Versailles
Hotels in the 15th arrondissement and in Issy-les-Moulineaux are closest. Montparnasse is a convenient alternative, with metro line 12 running straight to the venue.
Central Paris
Opéra, Saint-Lazare and the Champs-Élysées offer the widest choice and the best setting for dinners and advisory boards. For the Palais des Congrès, hotels along metro line 1 save a change; for Porte de Versailles, look along line 12.
Planning tips for HCP groups
- Check room sizes. Many Paris hotels have small rooms and a limited number of twins, so confirm room types before you sign.
- Watch the city calendar. Fashion weeks, major trade fairs and Roland-Garros in late May and June all push rates up.
- Budget for city tax. Paris charges a tourist tax per person per night, which varies with the hotel's star rating.
- Plan airport transfers. Charles de Gaulle is usually 45 to 60 minutes from Porte Maillot by road; Orly is closer to Porte de Versailles.
- French HCPs, French rules. If your group includes healthcare professionals practising in France, the national transparency and anti-gift rules apply to hospitality. We keep hotel choices and invoicing in line with them.
- Book early. For EuroPCR and other large meetings, we recommend securing a group block 9 to 12 months ahead.
After the sessions
Beyond the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, Paris has quieter corners worth an evening walk. Rue Crémieux in the 12th arrondissement is lined with pastel-coloured houses. On the Île aux Cygnes, a narrow island in the Seine, stands a replica of the Statue of Liberty. The Lavirotte Building on Avenue Rapp is one of the city's most striking Art Nouveau façades, and the Saint-Ouen flea market, including Marché Malassis, is the place to hunt for antiques on a free morning.
