Prague for Medical Congresses: PCC, Hotels and Group Tips

2023-02-16 12:10:08

Most large medical congresses in Prague take place at the Prague Congress Centre (PCC), next to Vyšehrad metro station and two stops from the city centre. The venue holds up to 9,300 people, and 2027 meetings there include ESPO, the European congress of paediatric otorhinolaryngology, from 17 to 20 April. Hotels range from towers next to the venue to the Old Town.

Prague ranks among the world's leading cities for international association congresses, and recent years have brought the World Congress of Internal Medicine (2024), the World Congress of Psychiatry (2025) and, in 2026, both the European Congress of Psychiatry and the World Ophthalmology Congress. A new 5,000 m² exhibition hall at PCC, due by 2028, will add room for bigger meetings. You can see upcoming medical congresses in Prague on our website.

Prague Congress Centre at a glance

  • Address: 5. května 1640/65, Prague 4, above the Nusle valley.
  • Capacity: more than 50 halls and meeting rooms for up to 9,300 people, plus 13,000 m² of exhibition space.
  • Public transport: Vyšehrad station on metro line C is right outside. Muzeum, at the top of Wenceslas Square, is two stops away.
  • Hotels on site: Holiday Inn Prague Congress Centre is part of the complex, and Grand Hotel Prague Towers (formerly the Corinthia) stands across the road.
  • Airport: Václav Havel Airport is about 20 km away, usually 30 to 40 minutes by road.

Where to stay

1. Next to the venue

Holiday Inn Prague Congress Centre and Grand Hotel Prague Towers are a few minutes' walk from the halls. They're the easiest choice for early sessions and for faculty or speakers, and they fill first.

2. Along metro line C

Hotels around Wenceslas Square, the main railway station and Florenc are two to four stops from Vyšehrad with no change of train. This is usually the best balance of price, choice and travel time for larger groups.

3. Old Town and Malá Strana

The historic centre is the most atmospheric base and works well for dinners and advisory boards. Allow 20 to 30 minutes to PCC by metro or taxi, plus walking time on cobbled streets.

Planning tips for HCP groups

  • Mind the hill. Some hotels in the Nusle valley look close on a map, but the walk up to PCC is steep and involves stairs. We check the real route before proposing a hotel.
  • Use the metro. Line C is fast and frequent, and often quicker than a coach transfer in morning traffic.
  • Book early. Spring and autumn are busy, and the biggest congresses fill the hotels around PCC first. We recommend securing a group block 9 to 12 months ahead.
  • Agree room block terms upfront. Cut-off dates, attrition and name-change deadlines should be clear before signing.
  • Budget for city tax. Prague charges a local accommodation fee per person per night.
  • Stay within your hospitality rules. We keep accommodation in line with the codes our pharma clients follow, such as EFPIA.

After the sessions

Vyšehrad fortress, with its gardens and views over the Vltava, is a short walk from PCC. In the centre, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle complex in the world, and the Astronomical Clock on the Old Town Square has been running since 1410. Cross the Charles Bridge to Malá Strana and the Lennon Wall, or end the day with an evening boat trip on the river. For dinner, look for traditional Czech taverns or the Art Nouveau Municipal House (Obecní dům).
