Frankfurt has an interesting history and a very modern business district that led to the nickname ”Chicago am Main”. Frankfurt frequently ranks in the top 10 best cities in which to live so there must be something special about this place. At the same time, Frankfurt is considered one of the best cities for business, so it is one of the best-developed urban centres in Europe. Of course, the best thing about this wonderful city in West Germany is that the locals took good care of their architectural treasures and nowadays tourists can take a walk around buildings that are over 1,000 years old.

You can sail upstream and downstream, admire the historic Sachsenhausen district, get panoramic views of Frankfurt’s Financial Center as well as learn about Goethe. Not many people know that Johann Wolfgang Goethe, the well-known writer, critic and statesman was born in 1749 in the city of Frankfurt.

Apfelwein- the apple wine- is the most popular drink in the region. This is especially because the fruit production around the Frankfurt area is high and this naturally led to the development of an industry dedicated to freshly pressed apple juice. However, bear in mind that the process includes fermentation which makes it alcoholic- the alcoholic rate varies between 4.8% and 7%. For those looking forward to tasting, you can find places where the apfelwein is the star of the menu, places like Adolf Wagner pub, Apfelwein Solzer or Zum Gemalten Haus.

Of course, no one really visited Frankfurt if he did not get to see the Old Town, with its famous City Hall- called Romer. In 2017, after years of reconstruction, the area regained its charm. The Old Town centre has superb half-timbered houses that were almost completely destroyed in the second World War after air raids, but architects succeeded in rebuilding them according to the original plans. This is why, Frankfurt has the fourth busiest airport in Europe, behind Heathrow Airport in London, Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris and Amsterdam Schipol Airport.
