Frankfurt for Medical Congresses: Messe Hotels and Trade Fair Dates

In Frankfurt, large medical and pharma events take place at Messe Frankfurt, one of the world's largest exhibition grounds, 15 minutes by S-Bahn from the airport. The main challenge for groups is the trade fair calendar: during major fairs, hotels within walking distance of the Messe can charge two to three times their normal rates. Upcoming events include CPHI Worldwide from 9 to 11 November 2027.

Frankfurt combines Germany's busiest airport with a compact centre and a dense hotel market, which is why medical societies keep choosing it. EHA held its 2023 congress at Messe Frankfurt, and the city hosts major pharma and industry fairs every year. You can see upcoming medical congresses in Frankfurt and our CPHI 2027 hotels on our website.

Messe Frankfurt at a glance

• Address: Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage 1, between the Westend and Europaviertel districts.
• Getting there: metro line U4 reaches the Festhalle/Messe stop two minutes from the main station, and the S-Bahn links the Messe with the airport in about 15 minutes.
• Congress spaces: alongside the exhibition halls, the grounds include the Congress Center Messe Frankfurt and Kap Europa for plenary sessions and meetings.

Fair dates that affect hotel rates

Before fixing a group's dates, we check what else is on at the Messe that week. A few examples from the 2027 calendar:

• Ambiente (29 January to 2 February 2027), the consumer goods fair that fills almost the entire exhibition grounds.
• IMEX Frankfurt (11 to 13 May 2027), the meetings and events industry show. Read why we attend IMEX Frankfurt.
• ACHEMA (14 to 18 June 2027), the process industry and biotechnology fair.
• CPHI Worldwide (9 to 11 November 2027), the pharmaceutical ingredients and manufacturing fair.

The Frankfurt Book Fair in October and other large fairs have the same effect. In those weeks, hotels often add minimum stays and stricter cancellation terms.

Where to stay

1. Walking distance to the Messe

Hotels in Westend and Europaviertel, such as the Maritim Hotel Frankfurt next to the Congress Center, are 5 to 15 minutes on foot. They are the most convenient and the first to fill.

2. Around the main station

The Hauptbahnhof area is one or two stops from the Messe, with a large choice of hotels and usually lower rates. It's also the easiest base for evening events in the centre.

3. At the airport

Airport hotels are a smart option in busy fair weeks. They're often better value than the Messe area, the S-Bahn ride takes around 15 minutes, and international arrivals are on the doorstep.

Planning tips for HCP groups

• Check the Messe calendar first. A congress week that overlaps a major fair can double the hotel budget.
• Book early. We recommend securing a group block 9 to 12 months ahead, and earlier if a big fair overlaps.
• Read the fair-week terms. Minimum stays, deposits and cancellation deadlines can be stricter than usual.
• Use public transport. U-Bahn and S-Bahn connections to the Messe are fast and often beat a coach transfer.
• Stay within your hospitality rules. We keep accommodation in line with the codes our pharma clients follow, such as EFPIA and the German FSA code.

After the sessions

The rebuilt Old Town around the Römerberg, with its half-timbered houses and the city hall, is the place for an evening walk. Goethe was born in Frankfurt in 1749, and his family house is now a museum. Across the Main, Sachsenhausen is known for its apple wine taverns, where Apfelwein is served in traditional stoneware jugs. A river cruise gives a good view of the skyline, and the Städel Museum is one of Germany's best art collections.
