March - the best time to be in the heart of Denmark
Making plans for next year already?
Copenhagen should be on your bucket list, for sure. Its name comes from the Danish term “Kjøbmandehavn” which means "merchants' harbour". The English name for the city is derived from its German name, Kopenhagen.
The capital of Denmark has the largest airport in Scandinavia, Kastrup, which welcomes up to 60.000 passengers daily. Founded in 1925, the airport is located just eight kilometres from the city centre, and you can catch a bus every ten minutes.
Once you arrive in the city, there is plenty of places to see. Copenhagen has one of the oldest monarchies in the world that traces back to the Viking Age. Many castles await you to come such as Amalienborg Palace, Kronborg Castle- a UNESCO heritage, Rosenborg Castle, Christiansborg Palace or Frederiksborg Castle, which hosts the Museum of National History.
For art lovers, places such as V1 Gallery, Oxholm Gallery or Poulsen Gallery are not to be missed. If you won’t have the courage to go around the city for a bike tour, the morning cinema at Grand Theatre is a warm place to spend your time.
A long day made you hungry but also eager to try something local? We recommend smørrebrød- a truly Danish food experience. All over the city, you can find restaurants with a long tradition (even dating back to the 19th century like Schonnemann) or modern gastro places such as Aamanns 1921 or Restaurant Møntergade.
One of the best months to see Copenhagen is March as the weather gets warmer and a walk around the city is enjoyable. For those who want to be part of the ECCO 2023 edition, we recommend checking our website for next year’s allotments. The 18th Congress of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation awaits you on Copenhagen's beautiful Scandinavian shore.
